Pour Les Oiseaux Music

Pour Les Oiseaux is the studio and label founded by Stephen Boocks to produce and release his music across all major streaming services. With a demanding full-time career in the wine industry, Boocks managed to produce music but found it difficult to properly promote his releases. Since potential listeners were not likely to stumble across his releases, he would joke that his music was "for the birds." With this in mind, he used the French translation, Pour Les Oiseaux, as a moniker. After retiring in late 2025, Boocks moved to Roxbury in the Catskills to focus full time on music and painting. With the studio completely set up, Boocks is preparing multiple releases for 2026 and beyond. Pour Les Oiseaux will begin to release music on physical media and add other musicians to the label.

Almost Songs
The tracks on this album were originally produced in 2019. The music is tense and dark music which reflects the uneasiness of the times before pandemic hit in 2020.

The album is a loose collection of works that are closer to traditional "songs" than anything on my two albums from 2018. At the time, I was fascinated with an acoustic bass instrument which is the foundation for many of these tracks. Overall, there is a low-fi vibe and darkness that unifies this varied collection of songs.

Memory
This was an album that didn't want to be finished. The title track, Memory came together very quickly last March following my mother's passing. It was different anything I was working on at the time so I released it as a single. Sense came together slowly but steadily, unlike Iter kept changing and changing, taking 4 years to get to this final state. There were 3 or 4 other tracks that I considered for this album but none seemed to fit correctly. Just as I was ready to release this as 3 track album, Distance came together and fit nicely, bring this set up to a bit more substantial 41 minutes of music.

Already Forgotten
The album is built primarily on ambient drones with some simple, slow moving melodies. The long title cut is the perfect summation with a simple piano figure repeated until it is consumed by the increasingly intense drone, though quitely returns as the drone fades away.

Zoning
The tracks on the album are composed by repeating short phrases on multiple vst instruments and modulating elements such as volume, timbre, and effects in defined "zones." Most of the pieces are played at a very slow tempo. The first four tracks were produced over a period of 6 months and use similar tactics. The final track, Restless, was begun much earlier and is not clearly portioned into distinct zones. Here, the multiple simple keyboard phrases are repeated throughout with a zone of disruption towards the end. Though Restless does not follow the same strategies as the others, I believe it is an appropriate way to end the album.
